The Man behind the Legend

In the UK, on November 5th each year we let off fireworks, light bonfires and burn effigies of the ’Guy’ to celebrate the infamous Guy Fawkes and his legendary plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London.

Yet strangely, even in England, Guy fawkes is still a shadowy, mystical character who, to most of the population is simply ’the man who tried to blow up Parliament’.

John Kirkwood is a guide with the York Historic Pub Tour and has an extensive knowledge of York and it’s history, including one of the city’s most well known sons, Guy Fawkes.

You can join John in the Guy Fawkes Inn every Tuesday & Thursday at 4p.m. for an afternoon of history and story-telling about this legendarty character.

Entrance is free and the bar is open throughout, service our wide range of fine Real Ales and home-cooked food.
